Arthur Conan Doyle
A historical adventure set during the Hundred Years' War. The story follows a young man as he leaves the shelter of an abbey in England and becomes involved with Edward, the Black Prince's campaign in Spain. Doyle later wrote a prequel, titled "Sir Nigel", concerning the early life of one of the heroes in this novel.

A non-fiction short story, A True Story of the Tragedy of Flowery Land was first published in the US syndicated press (in multiple journals including The Courier-Journal and The San Francisco Call) on 19 March 1899. The story is based on the real mutiny and massacre by the mixed nationality crew of the Flowery Land ship in 1863 and the trial and executions that followed in 1864.
The Return of Sherlock Holmes is the third collection of Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, published in 1905. It includes stories published in The Strand Magazine in 1903 and 1904, bringing Holmes for the first time into the twentieth century.

The plot of the novel is based very loosely on the real-life activities of the Molly Maguires and, particularly, of Pinkerton agent James McParland.
